About
Hi. I’m Greg 👋
I am a product designer with 7 years of industry experience and a Masters Certificate in User-Centered Design from the University of Washington. A generalist at heart, I became a product designer because it was the perfect combination of some of my favorite fields–art, psychology, and engineering.
I'm a generative thinker, uniquely skilled at connecting the digital and the physical world. I excel at researching people and designing solutions that radically improve the way they work. Most recently, as the lead mobile designer for Verizon Robotics, I simplified complex workflows for drone pilots at enterprise scale. My focus was on removing barriers to flight, building trust, and translating data into clear ROI for our customers.
On a team level, collaboration is at the heart of what I do. I truly enjoy working with multidisciplinary individuals from a variety of backgrounds who are enthusiastic about their craft. I genuinely believe that diverse teams generate the best results.
Professional Experience
Verizon Robotics / Skyward
Product Designer → Senior Product Designer
2018 - 2022
Portland, Oregon
Company goal: To make data more accessible and actionable by empowering people to fly drones.
Skyward worked like a startup within Verizon Robotics allowing me to wear many hats across design, strategy and product management. I led the UX for half of our core product focussing on solving the end to end needs for drone pilots.
One of my first major initiatives was to redesign our mobile app, from an React Native app to an iOS Native app. I migrated about 20 features making UX improvements and connecting the experience closely to our web application. Following that project, we hired two designers who helped design an Android app to feature parity. Throughout both those major projects, I leveraged native (HIG & Material) and in-house design systems to deliver work that was scalable and delivered on time.
Collaborating with PM’s, engineers and QA, I implement over 30 projects across web and mobile which established us as industry leaders in drone aviation management. I designed mobile features that helped users safely plan events, collaborate with their team and record their aviation events. I also designed for the connected devices (drones) as the pilots flew and captured data. My work led to 72% user retention rates through core JTBD workflows and contracts with Disney, John Deere and Southern Company.

Altsource
Product Designer
2017 - 2018
Portland, Oregon
Company goal: Empower non-technical companies with custom software to digitally transform their business.
Altsource is a custom software agency serving clients like Consumer Cellular, Special Olympics and Goodwill. I was the lead designer for prospect accounts and Consumer Cellular.
I won contracts with four new clients by researching, ideating, and pitching high-fidelity prototypes that gave companies the insights to digitally transform their business. I enjoyed working in a wide variety of problem spaces like with a trucking, banks, and restaurants.
I spent the other half of my time with Consumer Cellular, our number one client. I paired with engineers and researchers to implement changes to update legacy software for web and mobile. I led improvements in the billing functionality and UI that improved user satisfaction scores by 28% and impacting over four million subscribers.

Eagleview, an aerial photography company with a stronghold on the roof measurement world, was my first UX role out of the Masters program that wonderfully combined my background in photography with design.
I was the sole designer for a virtual claims inspection tool that empowered insurance adjusters to close hail damage claims remotely. I partnered with engineering and product leadership to develop a plan that would center around user research, experimentation and iteration. After six months, I designed two internal tools and a web application that improved adjuster productivity by 50-60%, won a $xxx million contract with Allstate Insurance and led to a 2018 Data/Analytics Novarica Impact Award.

Education
University of Washington
Masters Certificate, User-Centered Design
At UW, I established a strong user-centered design foundation and worked with local tech companies like Amazon, Microsoft and HTC to apply our learnings to real world applications.
I worked four projects:
a mobile app to help students connect their degree to careers
a cross-platform motivational fitness app
HTC usability research for the RE Camera
Thesis: a e-commerce web/mobile/future platform connecting family members through food

University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire
Bachelor of Arts, Photography
Here, my creativity was energized by the coolest hidden-nook of art professors east of the Mississippi. I was interested in challenging the relationship between light and the camera to make conceptual art.
Afterward, I moved to Toronto where I became a Photographer for the Art Gallery of Ontario. This was a dream come true at the time, combining my two favorite areas of study — photography and Art History. I also continued taking pictures, building conceptual artwork and exhibiting work around the city.

Superpowers
Skills I’ve had since a very young age, encouraged by others and have continued to develop ever since.
It started when I was 7, wondering why my parents were laughing at Saturday Night Live.
Now, it’s my ability to quickly understand the nuanced motivations behind peoples behavior.
It started when my grandma gave me a film camera when I was 5 years old.
Now, it’s my ability to generate unique and innovative ideas that push the boundaries of what's possible.
It started with winning chess tournaments in elementary and grade school.
Now, it’s my ability to see the big picture, identify long-term goals, and devise a plan for achieving them.
